What does therapy look like?

There isn't one set format. Sessions can include conversation, walking, fitness and strength training, or a combination of these.

As a therapist working with women in Calgary, I use movement in ways that fit what you're looking for and how you want to engage in therapy.

Do I need to be fit or experienced with exercise?

Not at all. You don't need to consider yourself a "fitness person," and you don't need previous strength-training experience.

Fitness and strength training can be adapted to your experience, abilities, and comfort level. You don't need to arrive knowing what to do.

What happens during a strength-training therapy session?

Strength-training sessions take place in a private studio, where we work through exercises together. This might involve learning a new movement, working on technique, trying something challenging, or noticing what comes up as you're moving.

There isn't a standard workout to complete. The session is shaped around you and what you're exploring in therapy.

Do we talk while I'm exercising?

Sometimes. Sometimes we talk before or after an exercise, and sometimes the conversation unfolds while you're moving.

There isn't a requirement to keep talking while you're exercising. The session can develop naturally around what you're doing and noticing.

What if I don't want to exercise during a session?

That's okay. You don't have to perform, exercise a certain way, or have a particular fitness goal.

We can walk, work through strength exercises, or spend more time in conversation while moving. The approach can change depending on what feels useful for you that day.

What is walk-and-talk therapy?

Walk-and-talk therapy is a form of therapy where we walk while we talk.

Walk-and-talk sessions may take place outdoors when weather permits or indoors in an appropriate walking space.

Where does walk-and-talk therapy take place in Calgary?

Walk-and-talk sessions may take place outdoors when weather permits, or indoors in an appropriate walking space when it doesn't.

We'll discuss the location when we arrange your session.

What should I wear for a therapy session?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable moving in.

For fitness and strength-training sessions, comfortable athletic clothing and shoes are recommended. For walk-and-talk therapy, dress for the weather and the setting.

You don't need special equipment or workout clothing.

What if I've never been to therapy before?

You don't need to know how therapy is supposed to work before you begin.

We'll start with a conversation about what's bringing you in, what you're looking for, and what you might want from therapy. From there, we can figure out what approach feels like a good fit.

Is this approach right for me?

You might be drawn to therapy that gives you the option to walk, move, or work with strength and fitness as part of your sessions. You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for before you begin. We can talk about what brings you here, what you're hoping for, and what might work well for you.

Can I combine walk-and-talk therapy and strength training?

Yes. Your sessions don't have to follow one format.

You may find that walk-and-talk therapy feels right at one point and strength training at another. We can adapt the approach as your needs and interests change.
